Meet Ebun Oladele (MA’20), Black Student Advisor.
Ebun has been a valued member of the Saint Mary’s community since her time as a student, completing her Master degree in 2020, before joining the university as staff. She has held roles as Secretary in the Marketing and Economics Departments and later as Service Learning Coordinator in Experiential Learning, before stepping into her current position as Black Student Advisor. Ebun holds Master’s degrees from Saint Mary’s University and the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland, and brings a wealth of experience shaped by her work and lived experience across Nigeria, Northern Ireland, and Canada. As both a former student and current employee of Saint Mary’s, Ebun brings a unique perspective to the role. “I can relate to and understand a lot of the experiences some of our Black students face,” she notes. “And I am equally aware of current processes and resources that are not entirely meeting the needs of our Black students. This role allows me to advocate for enhanced resources, representation, and support for our Black students.” Ebun is passionate about breaking down institutional barriers that have historically limited access to opportunities for Black students. With a focus on academic empowerment and Ubuntu, she champions initiatives that strengthen student experiences, expand access to support, and build community among Saint Mary’s culturally rich and diverse Black student population. Ebun also recognizes the importance of creating brave spaces where Black students feel supported and connected. “Having access to a space that feels supportive has a direct impact on students’ academic achievements, personal growth, mental health, and emotional well-being,” she says. “I’m excited to support students as they explore resources, build connections, and navigate their journey at Saint Mary’s.”
